Last week, we celebrated the 2018 / 2019 National Final of The Scottish Thistle Awards, in association with Fishers.

Willie Cameron, founding director of marketing for Visit Loch Ness and founding director of the Cobbs Group, took home the prestigious Johnstons of Elgin Silver Thistle Award this year, which was presented by the Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop, and George McNeil, Managing Director of Retail for Johnstons of Elgin.

Mr Cameron, also locally known as “Mr Loch Ness” was praised for playing an important part in the promotion of food and drink, hospitality and film development, both in the Highlands and in Scotland.

The Silver Thistle Award is awarded to those who have displayed an outstanding commitment to the growth and development of tourism.

His current projects include helping Love Productions, the company behind The Great British Bake Off, to film a new series in the Great Glen, and consulting with Disney on its cruise line’s magic tours of the Highlands, based around the 2012 animated film Brave.

Willie said it was “absolutely amazing” to receive the Silver Thistle Award and “felt blown away by it.”

He spoke passionately about his love for Scotland and how our country ticks all the boxes in attracting visitors to its shores.

Congratulations Willie on this prestigious award win.
