Edinburgh iCentre welcomes thousands at new location

As many of you already know we moved the Edinburgh iCentre on Princes Street in 2019 and opened at our new premises on the Royal Mile within the City Chambers building.

Since opening on 22 May we’ve welcomed more than 200,000 visitors and many tourism business owners.

Located close to Edinburgh Castle, we invested £400,000 to provide a welcoming and attractive experience offering information through a wide variety of tools to ensure our visitors experience the best of the city and Scotland as a whole.

This type of investment is a key part of our Information Strategy which focuses on providing information in different ways to suit today’s visitors. In the new iCentre visitors are encouraged to move around the space and make use of the stand-up desks as well as taking inspiration from the big screen TVs with dramatic images of locations across Scotland.

Gateway to Scotland

The Edinburgh iCentre is the gateway to Scotland for many of our visitors and it’s our job to do everything we can to help them make the most of their time in our country.

The team in Edinburgh are supported with innovative collateral in the form of a new digital light box - inspiring visitors before they enter the iCentre - along with wall graphics, a great selection of information provision and up to date surface pros which help our Visitor Services Advisors to introduce the visitor to the rich range of options available.

Meet the team

The move to the High Street has strengthened relationships between ourselves and industry, they’ve been very supportive. We’ve been able to offer a platform for the industry to connect directly with our visitors through tastings from whisky providers, storytelling for kids and some acting from ghost tours.

For anyone that hasn’t been in yet - please do pop by and visit us sometime soon!

Our new location presents a real opportunity to engage with more Edinburgh visitors and further inspire them to explore the farthest reaches of the region and Scotland as a whole. Visitors are using our iCentre for the exact purpose that we wanted, to see what Edinburgh and Scotland has to offer and we’re getting lots of compliments of it having ‘the wow factor’.

It’s been a very exciting year and I want to thank the team and our suppliers and partners for their help in getting us here. We’re really enjoying our new working environment and there’s a great buzz being on the Royal Mile.

Penny Tripney, Edinburgh iCentre Manager, VisitScotland

By relocating to the heart of the visitor experience on the Royal Mile, our dedicated team of iCentre staff can give information and further inspire many more visitors to see, do and spend more right across the city of Edinburgh, the wider region and Scotland as a whole.
