The Road Dance, a new period drama, released in cinemas today (Friday 20 May) is set to inspire film lovers to experience the beauty of the Outer Hebrides.
We’re highlighting how the film, which was filmed entirely on the Isle of Lewis, could contribute to screen tourism for the Outer Hebrides, whereby visitors seek to visit a location after seeing it on-screen.
The film, based on the book The Road Dance by John MacKay, STV News presenter and author, was shot in October and November of 2020. It was the first production to be shot on the archipelago during the pandemic.
Filming predominantly took place at the restored Gearrannan Blackhouse Village near Carloway on the west coast and joins more than 100 other productions which have used the Outer Hebrides as a filming location in the past decade.
A special preview screening of the Road Dance was hosted in Stornoway earlier in the month, which was organised in partnership with Outer Hebrides Tourism and film distributors, Parkland Entertainment. The screening provided an opportunity to acknowledge the support of local businesses and crew in its production, showcase the film prior to it wider release and give the audience a stronger insight to the real-life story behind the book.
