New river trail in development
Destination Tweed is a new visitor trail which will celebrate and share the nature, history and stories of the River Tweed, one of the UK's most highly designated and inspirational river corridors.
A five-year partnership-led investment, which began in 2022, will deliver a source to sea River Tweed Trail, which respects its special status and connects communities and attractions with sensitive, impactful and innovative interpretation.
The trail is led by Tweed Forum, and developed in collaboration with Scottish Borders Council, a range of project partners and landowners. Destination Tweed features the creation of a 113 mile walking trail and facilitated 108 mile cycling route from Moffat, past the source of the river, to Berwick-upon-Tweed where the river meets the sea.
Visitors will have the opportunity to do the walking or cycling trails either in their entirety or in part over a few days with different itinerary options being developed.
The multi-faceted initiative will see an investment of around £25 million in the area.
