Marking 25 years

2025 marks the 25th anniversary year of ETAG’s establishment.

To celebrate this milestone and the achievements of the tourism industry in Edinburgh over the past 25 years, ETAG is running a series of themed content and events throughout the year.

The past 25 years have seen a remarkable transformation in the scale and nature of Edinburgh’s tourism industry and its impact on the economic, social and cultural life of the city.

Public and private sector investment in large scale projects such as hotel developments, flagship attractions, the airport, the trams, shopping destinations, events and festivals and conference facilities, have all helped to increase the city’s appeal as a destination for both leisure and business visitors – firmly placing Edinburgh on the map as a must-see destination.

Since inception, ETAG has initiated and delivered a range of projects and events that have supported Edinburgh’s tourism industry to collaborate and advance. This includes:

  • Edinburgh’s annual tourism industry conference
  • the Edinburgh Tourism Showcase (networking and knowledge exchange event)
  • Tech Tuesday series (an event series dedicated to helping businesses make sense of technology within the tourism industry)
  • China Ready project
  • a range of business development guides

During this time, ETAG has also facilitated the delivery of the city’s tourism strategies.

25th birthday campaign

This campaign aims to celebrate the legacy of ETAG and the Edinburgh visitor economy by showcasing the collective achievements as a destination over the last 25 years.

The campaign also aims to spark future-focused dialogue on what lies ahead for the industry over the next 25 years.

Take a look at the ETAG website and check out its Edinburgh Tourism Timeline, and Passionate People interviews, featuring VisitScotland Regional Director, Neil Christison, as part of their activity celebrating 25 years.

More information on ETAG's birthday party celebrations and a series of themed business briefings will be added soon.
