This week, (10 February 2025), the MICHELIN Guide Great Britain and Ireland ceremony was held at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum in Glasgow, the first time the prestigious event has been held in Scotland.

The MICHELIN Guide, which awards coveted MICHELIN Stars, Green Stars and Bib Gourmand distinctions, is a mark of excellence within the restaurant industry, celebrating the best of the best in the UK's food scene.

Chefs from across the UK running MICHELIN star restaurants were invited to attend the ceremony, alongside journalists, influencers, partners and industry leaders.

At the ceremony, two new One MICHELIN-stars were awarded to Scottish restaurants, as well as five Bib Gourmand distinctions and a special Service Award.

Joining the list in 2025 as newly awarded One MICHELIN star restaurants are Lyla, a seafood focused tasting menu by chef and restaurateur Stuart Ralston, and Avery, the latest version of a San Francisco MICHELIN-star restaurant by US chef Rodney Wages.

With the two latest additions, Scotland now has 13 MICHELIN star restaurants, offering exquisite fine dining experiences with delicious homegrown produce.

MICHELIN awards in Glasgow

A celebration of the highest quality of food, drink and service, the MICHELIN Guide Ceremony coming to Glasgow reflects the city and the country’s reputation for its premium food and drink offering. Scotland’s seafood, red meat, spirits and beers are staples in the some of the world’s best restaurants.

Ahead of the event taking place, MICHELIN created a 2-day itinerary for visitors to enjoy, shining a spotlight on the host city and showcasing the "vibrancy, variety and sheer quality" of the city’s food scene which made it the perfect host for the 2025 ceremony.

The ceremony also received support from the Scottish Government, which provided £90,000 funding to Scotland Food & Drink alongside their own investment of £50,000, to enable the MICHELIN Guide to take place in Glasgow. It's the latest in a series of high-profile events Glasgow has hosted in recent years – from COP26 to the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, and in 2026, the city will host the Commonwealth Games. Glasgow was also recently named the friendliest city in the UK at the Conde Nast UK: 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards.
