New responsible tourism videos

It's the latest work of our talented creative studio team and aims to encourage those working within the industry to think about how they can help preserve Scotland’s world-famous landscapes and heritage for future generations.

Following the responsible tourism video featuring James Cosmo, we have four more videos joining the suite of responsible tourism focused video content. These include three case studies, and a longer video featuring key leaders' discussing vision and actions.

Speakers include:

  • Vicki Miller, VisitScotland
  • Aileen Crawford, Glasgow Life
  • Adrian Turpin, Wigtown Book Festival
  • Paul Easto, Wilderness Scotland
  • Joshua Ryan-Saha, Traveltech Scotland, Edinburgh Futures Institute
  • Kat Brogan, Mercat Tours

This supports our key priorities – market development, place development and business and experience development – by encouraging businesses to think about how they can operate in a way that considers the planet and the interests of visitors.

It forms part of our efforts to promote Scotland as a must-visit, must-return year-round destination and supports the ongoing work we’ve been doing to help businesses create climate action plans.

Reduce your climate impact guide

Taking responsibility for your business emissions and activities is a big first step on the road to net zero.

We created three climate action case studies to bring our reduce your climate impact action guide to life. They showcase how businesses have embedded responsible tourism practice into their businesses and what their climate action journey looks like.

The video case studies feature:

  • Glen Mhor Hotel & Uile-Bheist Distillery and Brewery

  • The Scottish Crannog Centre

  • Wilderness Scotland

The climate action guide has been designed to help tourism businesses at an early stage or starting out on their climate action journey.

Our guide contains a whole host of actions a business can take. Actions are spread across three reduction themes of energy, waste management and business transport. With three further net zero business support themes of communicating your climate action, adapting to climate change, and influencing suppliers and customers.

How to benefit from responsible tourism?

Events and tourism businesses from across the length and breadth of Scotland can benefit from visitors seeking responsible tourism experiences. For us, this means (among others):

  • dialing up our focus on our distinctive and special natural assets and heritage

  • demonstrating just how important they are to the experiences we offer

  • tailoring them to the unique qualities of the season

Net zero is not something we can achieve alone; it will take many of us, united as an industry, to work together to collectively build a sustainable destination with a common goal. A key part of that journey is to inspire and be inspired by others, to learn and help one another by discovering examples of best practices in climate action and responsible tourism. There is no better way to do this than by listening to our peers and seeing what leaders and businesses are doing in this space, which is why we have brought you a sample of some of the best practices going on here in Scotland and to hear from the businesses in our destination already paving the way to that sustainable future.
