A message from our Chief Executive and Chair

As 2024 ends, it’s a fitting time to reflect on how far we’ve come. Global travel continues to recover and this year surpassed 2019 levels. Despite a challenging financial landscape, consumers still want to prioritise their spending on travel and experiences. And we know that there's particularly strong demand for the immersive unique experiences Scotland offers.

We've seen record spend by overseas visitors, helping Scotland to outperform other parts of the UK. This is testament to the strength of Scotland’s offering and the work that you all do. A strong international performance is particularly important at a time when we've seen the cost-of-living impacting demand from domestic visitors, despite Scotland remaining a popular destination.

This year has seen the arrival of some impressive new additions to Scotland’s renowned tourism offering and we’ve continued to build on Scotland’s reputation as the perfect stage for events with millions of visitors experiencing events across the country.

Looking ahead to a new year and 2025, we've a lot to look forward to. From the opening of attractions to iconic events and new direct air routes. At VisitScotland we’ll continue to focus on developing Scotland’s key markets to drive year-round demand and sustainable growth.

Things to look out for include the launch of our new digital business support hub, VisitScotland Connect, activity to grow international air connectivity, our 2025 content calendar and a programme of international travel trade and business events. All of this work is designed to promote Scotland as a must-visit, must-return destination for both international and domestic visitors.

No doubt, as we’ve seen in recent years, there will be challenges and changes ahead, but we can continue to navigate these together. Scotland consistently outperforms in a highly competitive global market, delivering world-class events and experiences that inspire visitors and set us apart. Let's not forget that, even at this busy time of year.

On behalf of everyone at VisitScotland, we wish you a happy festive season and we can’t wait to see what progress we make together in 2025.

Best wishes
Vicki Miller, Chief Executive
