Scotland’s updated national events strategy, Scotland The Perfect Stage 2024-2035, highlights the strategic priority for the events sector in Scotland to contribute positively in tackling the climate crisis by delivering environmentally responsible events that support Scotland’s just transition to net zero.

Tackling climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing Scotland's events sector.

This webinar will provide participants with an opportunity to hear from speakers directly involved in advising and supporting the events sector in their effort to take responsible action. This will include a case study from one of Scotland’s major live event promoters.

Focus of the webinar

This webinar will take place on Microsoft Teams and feature representation from Climate Scotland and DF Concerts. After both presentations, there will also be time for questions, discussion, and the sharing of good practice and experience by participants.

Romane Boyer, Senior Green Arts Officer at Culture for Climate Scotland co-leads the organisation’s Green Arts Initiative, which facilitates a community of cultural organisations to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, adapt to climate change, and use their power to influence wider society.

From 2020 to 2024, Romane supported the Edinburgh Festivals in their ambitious strategy to achieve net zero. Romane will cover:

  • some of the work currently being undertaken in the cultural sector
  • an update on the Green Arts Initiative and Charter
  • thoughts around mitigation, adaptation, climate justice
  • the importance of influencing towards a more sustainable society, and collaboration

Kevin Mackay, Sustainability Manager at DF Concerts has a diverse background as a musician, venue manager, tour manager, and production coordinator.

Kevin began his journey working in event sustainability in 2022.  His current role is at DF Concerts & Events, Scotland’s biggest festival and concert promoter, with events that include Rockstar Energy presents TRNSMT, plus Glasgow and Edinburgh Summer Sessions. Kevin will cover:

  • some of the actions being taken around renewable energy and temporary power, public and active travel amongst fans
  • information on protecting nature and biodiversity whilst running large scale events
  • some of the challenges that the industry continues to face
