Monday 24 February - Sunday 2 March is Seachdain na Gàidhlig (World Gaelic Week), and we've been celebrating Gaelic culture and language across our channels. This year's theme is "building connections".

Established in 2022 and funded by Bòrd na Gàidhlig, Seachdain na Gàidhlig is the first official nationwide language and culture week to be held in Scotland.

The week celebrates Scottish Gaelic across the globe and aims to raise the profile of Gaelic through community initiatives, school engagement, projects and events.

Take a look at the Seachdain na Gàidhlig website to find out more.

How we're supporting

This year we've supported Seachdain na Gàidhlig by curating Gaelic focused content across our consumer and corporate social media channels. We shared content across LinkedIn, Xcorporate and consumer, Instagram and TikTok. These channels have a combined following of four million, creating an opportunity for Gaelic to be seen by a wide online audience of people actively interested in VisitScotland activity, and Scotland itself.

For #SayAGaelicPhraseDay on Thursday, our Instagram Stories featured five different Gaelic phrases along with the phonetic for each to help and encourage people to pronounce the phrases. Each story linked to a web page where viewers were able to access audio clips of each phrase was included in the final one, receiving 281 link clicks.

Here on VisitScotland.org, we published a dual-language Q&A with Celtic Connections. The article looks at the success of their 2025 programme, it's celebration of Gaelic and their involvement of Glasgow Life's new Gaelic Arts Plan.

On visitscotland.com, our Gaelic-focused pages were updated with revised content, and we featured Seachdain na Gàidhlig as the "pick of the month" module.

On Instagram, our weekly Coosday post was a carousel featuring various Gaelic words alongside photographs of Highland Coo's. This has received just over 200,000 impressions and views, along with 2,000 saves and lots of engagement in the comments section. We also shared this content on TikTok and Threads, receiving 13,000 views combined.

Promoting Gaelic

In partnership with our colleagues at Bòrd na Gàidhlig, we have co-ordinated a directory of Gaelic resources to help your business incorporate and celebrate Gaelic culture and language.

The toolkit includes the importance of Gaelic, key statistics, business case studies and a directory and further resources. This is available in both English and Gaelic.
