Trips taken by Great British residents to Scotland were at a lower level than 2022, as were the nights and spend associated with these trips. 2022 was a strong year for domestic tourism in terms of recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
There were also several challenges that inhibited trip-taking intentions in 2023, including the continuation of the cost-of-living crisis and the return of international travel options.

International tourism to Scotland demonstrated stronger growth from 2022 than domestic, demonstrating a continued post-COVID recovery.
2023 was a record year for international visitor numbers, nights, and spend, surpassing both 2019 and 2022. This was also the first year that international expenditure accounted for over (53%) of total overnight expenditure.
