Glasgow's Low Emission Zone (LEZ) comes into force

As of today (1 June 2023) Low Emission Zones (LEZs) come into force in Glasgow.

All vehicles entering the city centre zone area will need to meet the less-polluting emission standards or face a penalty charge. However there are exemptions and zone residents have extra time to comply.

Why introduce LEZ's?

It was announced that Low Emission Zones (LEZs) are to be introduced in Scotland across Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow. LEZs help to improve air quality, protect public health and encourage people to use more public transport and cleaner vehicles.

LEZ's will stop the most highly polluting vehicles from entering the zone. Any vehicles entering a zone must meet minimum emission standards or will face a fine, certain exemptions will apply.

You can see if your vehicle meets LEZ emission standards by using Transport Scotland's vehicle registration checker.

Blue Badge holders who require exemptions can register their details on Transport Scotland's LEZ exemption system.
