July promises to be an exciting month for events in Scotland, as the summer holidays begin and the country welcomes visitors from near and far once again. With a variety of events happening across the country, there is something for everyone this summer. 

The events listed are supported through EventScotland’s National and International Event Programmes. A number of the events are also part of Scotland’s Year of Stories 2022. Find out more information about Scotland’s Year of Stories and all upcoming events here.

This July we have an exciting range of events and festivals taking place across the country for people to get out and enjoy, including The 150th Open Championships which is just one of five major golf tournaments Scotland is hosting in the coming weeks.

This packed calendar of events is set to attract both local and international audiences and offers everyone the opportunity to experience our vibrant culture while reaffirms Scotland’s position as the perfect stage for events.

In-person event from 1 July until 27 August in The Highlands.

The exciting multi-award nominated summer festival returns to Inverness with a fantastic line-up of live music sessions and performances under the stretch tents at Eden Court. It will also have special events and curated weeks, including Sgeul, part of Scotland’s Year of Stories, taking place throughout the two-month long festival.

Doonfest

In-person event from 1 July until 3 July in South Ayrshire.

A unique community summer festival on the banks of the River Doon, Doonfest promises to be a weekend of family-friendly fun. Taking place in Dalrymple, the festival offers free daytime events, including workshops, entertainment and music, while in the evenings the main stage will host ticketed performances by some of Scotland’s finest musicians.

Luss Highland Games

In-person event on 2 July in Argyll and Bute.

Visit the bonnie banks for a day of fun at the historic Luss Highland Games. The day will consist of traditional games and dancing, as well as many other activities for everyone to get involved in.

McRae Rally Challenge

In-person event from 2 July until 3 July in Fife.

Rally fans are raring to go for the McRae Rally Challenge, celebrating some of the best rally driving in the UK and further afield. The weekend will consist of a variety of attractions and exhilarating racing for everyone to enjoy.

Genesis Scottish Open 2022

In-person event from 7 July until 10 July in East Lothian.

The Genesis Scottish Open will kick off Scotland’s incredible summer of golf as the Renaissance Club in North Berwick welcomes four of the top five and 12 of the top 20 players in the world for the third Rolex Series event of the DP World Tour season.

Stonehaven Folk Festival

In-person event from 8 July until 10 July in Aberdeenshire.

Experience some of the best traditional and contemporary folk music Scotland has to offer at 32nd Stonehaven Folk Festival. There is an exciting line-up of musicians as well as plenty of activities for all to enjoy, including workshops, sessions and ceilidh dances.

Tiree Music Festival

In-person event from 8 July until 10 July in Argyll and Bute.

After two years, Tiree Music Festival returns to the Inner Hebridean island for a sold-out weekend of traditional and contemporary folk music. This intimate festival set alongside the pristine white sandy beaches of Tiree will have a range of music, food and drink stalls, and fun activities for festival goers to enjoy.

The 150th Open Championship

In-person event from 10 July until 17 July in Fife.

The oldest golf tournament in the world returns to the home of golf this July as St Andrew’s hosts The 150th Open. In what is sure to be a historic Open with record crowds, the world’s best greatest players will descent on Fife to try and capture the Claret Jug.

HebCelt Festival

In-person event from 13 July until 16 July in Na h-Eileanan Siar.

Experience a fantastic line up of folk music at HebCelt in Stornoway, the heartland of Gaelic language and culture. People are invited to the Isle of Lewis and Harris for an exciting four-day festival of music, storytelling, and fun activities.

Dundee Summer Bash Streets Festival

In-person event from 14 July until 24 July in Dundee.

Dundee Summer Bash Streets Festival proudly proclaims the city to be Beanotown. With lots of free family friendly outdoor fun there's something for everyone with pop-up outdoor comic museum, the Dennis fun-run, workshops, talks, film screenings, street performances, an exhibition of emerging work, marble runs and world record attempts. The festival celebrates the stories and characters that have come out of Dundee and leave no one in doubt that Dundee is the home of comics.

Doune The Rabbit Hole

In-person event from 14 July until 17 July in Stirlingshire.

Cardross Estate is set to welcome festival goers from all over to Doune The Rabbit Hole for a weekend of live music, yoga and wellness, workshops, and much more. With a stellar line-up of international and local musicians, and a festival ground filled with a variety of things to do, allow yourself to become curiouser and curiouser and enjoy this fantastic summer session.

Kirriemuir Agricultural Show

In-person event on 16 July in Angus.

Join in the festivities at the Kirriemuir Agricultural Show, which celebrates more than 140 years of farming tradition, community connections, and family fun. After a two-year break, the community is excited to welcome back this annual show and exhibit some of the best livestock, machinery, baking, and handicraft Kirriermuir has to offer.

The Senior Open Presented by Rolex

In-person event from 21 July until 24 July in Perthshire.

The King’s Course at Gleneagles will welcome golfing royalty this summer for The 35th Senior Open Championship. This event is a momentous occasion for Scottish golf, as it is the only Senior Major Championship to be hosted in Europe this year.

Doonhame Festival

In-person festival from 22 July until 23 July in Dumfries and Galloway.

Experience a fantastic line-up of music in a picturesque rural setting at The Crichton, located on the outskirts of Dumfries, for Doonhame Festival. With four stages to choose from, as well as a relaxation area and food village, there is something for everyone as this summer festival.

Airth Highland Games

In-person event on 23 July in Stirlingshire.

Experience one of Scotland’s oldest traditional highland games and join thousands of visitors for the Airth Highland Games. From Scottish highland dancing to solo piping, there are plenty of competitions to enjoy. Why not get involved and take part in the tug-o-war or Smiddy Stane challenge?

Balquhidder, Lochearnhead and Strathyre Highland Games

In-person event on 23 July in Stirlingshire.

Visit the heart of Scotland for an exciting day of Highland Games activities at the Balquhidder, Lochearnhead and Strathyre Highland Games. The day will commence at 10am and will involve a range of activities, from clan marches, pipe bands, traditional folk performances, and much more.

Making Waves Festival

In-person event from 23 July until 24 July in North Ayrshire.

Making Waves Festival debuts at Irvine Harbourside and Beach Park this summer, with an exciting line-up of music and fun family-friendly activities set against an unforgettable backdrop of the Isle of Arran.

Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival

In-person event from 28 July until 30 July in The Highlands.

Homegrown in the Highlands, this fantastic event is not to be missed with an exciting range of musicians from alternative rock to Tik Tok sensations. One of the most inclusive festivals in Scotland, Belladrum attracts crowds from all over to the festival grounds, which are situated just outside of Inverness.

Edinburgh Art Festival

In-person event from 28 July until 28 August in East Lothian.

Featuring work from international artists and emerging talent, the Edinburgh Art Festival is the platform for the visual arts at the heart of Edinburgh’s August festivals. Galleries, museums and artist-run spaces will be transformed and people from all walks of life are provided the opportunity to enjoy these mesmerising pieces throughout the four-week long festival.

Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open

In-person event from 28 July until 31 July in South Ayrshire.

The summer of golf continues in Scotland with the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open. An integral event on the golfing calendar, the Women’s Scottish Open is set to attract the best golfers from both the Ladies European Tour and the LPGA to compete at this co-sanctioned event at Dundonald Links, Troon.

Turriff Show

In-person event from 31 July until 1 August in Aberdeenshire.

The Turriff Show is the biggest agricultural show in Scotland, hosting over 300 exhibitor stands, local producers, live entertainment, and much more. The show brings people from all over to Aberdeenshire to enjoy a weekend of festivities and exhibit the best of Scottish agriculture.
