New travel hub at the heart of the community
Last month (11 October 2022) saw the opening of a brand-new community-owned and run facility – Alloa Hub in Clackmannanshire.
Part of the Living Alloa Project, this community regeneration project has been developed in partnership between Clackmannanshire Council, Clackmannanshire Third Sector Interface and Alloa First.
The project has also been shortlisted in the Scottish Regeneration Forum's SURF awards.
This exciting new travel hub, at the heart of the community, will provide residents, visitors and local businesses with services and facilities including meeting room space, a 'made in Clacks' shop, e-bike station – part of Forth Bikes – and will also be a source of local information for visitors to the hub.
As well as this, the hub has taken on an exciting and central role within the community as the permanent home to the Clackmannanshire tapestry.
This significant piece of art, inspired by the Great Tapestry of Scotland has been designed by local stitchers to celebrate the history and heritage of Clackmannanshire. It skillfully details the landscape, history, the people, and their achievements of the wee county, and is proudly on display within new hub.
To celebrate both the tapestry and Scotland’s Year of Stories 2022, Alloa Hub has invited residents from across Clackmannanshire to tell their local stories of the county’s industrial heritage. These will help bring to life the storytelling behind new walking tours being developed.
Story sharing workshops are taking place throughout the month – to find out more and share your stories follow “Alloa Hub” on Facebook.
